GETTING TO BHUTAN

Flying to Bhutan

Travel to Bhutan - Bhutan can be reached either by air or by road (from India) and we are happy to be your travel guide to Bhutan. 

International flights are available into Bhutan's only international airport at Paro which is an hour's drive from the capital city of Thimphu.  The only two airlines that are permitted to fly this sector are the national carrier - Drukair, and Bhutan Airlines.

Flying into Bhutan is an exhilarating experience.  The flight into Paro is spectacular with mountain views and a very interesting final approach to the airport.  Just landing at Paro International airport is an experience in itself.

Getting to Bhutan by Road

If you wish to drive into Bhutan, you can enter and exit Bhutan through its southern gateway of Phuentsholing bordering the Indian state of West Bengal - approximately a five-hour drive from Thimphu. The nearest airport is Bagdogra (IXB), located approximately four hours by road from Phuentsholing. 

For those who would like to traverse Bhutan, there is an entry/exit point at Samdrup Jongkhar in southeast Bhutan to the Indian state of Assam. The closest airport is 110 km away in Guwahati (GAU).  This is convenient for those flying into Paro in the west and touring across Bhutan without backtracking or vice versa.
